GIS & Mapping Project Highlights

Most people experience climate through the extremes. Crops are affected when temperatures drop below freezing, and we change our behavior when the day’s high is over 100° F. Thus, we assessed recent and future change in the extremes for the community of Austin, Texas.
The Geos Institute has created a series of maps for the Rogue Basin to aid aquatic biologists and land managers with restoration efforts.
Is beaver introduction a viable option for the Cache la Poudre, Colorado region? We created a habitat suitability model in GIS based on existing peer-reviewed literature on dam-building beaver requirements.

Using the 2014 National Climate Assessment as a guide, we applied the key messages to an interactive web map to show users what threats they may see in their region.
Leveraging Esri's data driven pages functionality with custom python scripts, we created a series of twelve maps to show the intrinsic potential of Coho salmon in the Rogue River Basin.
As a companion to the book Temperate and Boreal Rainforests of the World: Ecology and Conservation, we created an interactive web mapping application to give readers a virtual tour of the ten biogeographically unique regions of the world featured in the book.
